What is GSM?
GSM refers to grams per square meter and is a standard term used to measure the weight of fabrics. It is typically used to describe the weight of towels.
What is the best GSM for towels?
There is no right answer, it depends on your requirements and preferences. GSM is not an indicator of absorbency or softness as those factors also depend on the type of cotton used, any other fabrics mixed in, the weave used. The below can be used as a general guide:
300-400 gsm
A lighter and thinner towel. Suitable for the gym, children and for quick air drying in humid conditions.
400-600 gsm
A medium weight towel. Suitable for every day use at home and at the beach. A good weight for guest towels which can be found in 5-star hotels.
600-900 gsm
A denser and heavier towel. As a result, it may take a bit more time to dry.
